MBC Flats

Our dream is for a different way of being God’s people in the midst of modern life in the burbs. As part of that dream, we believe in communities of hope: intentional gatherings of people who choose to live together, to support each other through life, and to serve those around them.

What’s life like in the flats?

The MBC Flats is a chance to live together with other young people in intentional community.

We have weekly or fortnightly meals together, share life, have fun, chat about God and journey together through everyday life.

We are supported by a lead tenant and connected with the wider MBC church.

What’s the accomodation like?

MBC has four units located next to the church building. Each of the four units consists of two separate bedrooms, joined by a shared bathroom, kitchen and common space. All four units share a laundry.

Units are leased on a yearly basis (from February – January).

The units are furnished with a bed, table, chairs, couch, fridge and most kitchen essentials. Water, gas, electricity, and unlimited ADSL 2+ internet are included in the monthly rental.

Offers are made to students on the basis of an application and interview process run by the MBC Flats Committee.
Interviews begin in November of each year, and places are limited. Early applications are encouraged.

Where are we?

Murrumbeena Railway Station is less than a 250 metre walk and is on the Pakenham/Cranbourne line. It is located in Zone 1 on the Melbourne Metro train network.

Murrumbeena is only 20 minutes by train from the city (13 km), and convenient to all CBD and inner city campuses such as Melbourne University, Victoria University and RMIT. The Caulfield and Clayton campuses of Monash University are easily accessible by a short train trip. Deakin University’s Burwood campus can be accessed by bus.

The units are next to a local shopping strip catering for most shopping needs. Chadstone Shopping Centre is within walking distance and accessible by bus.

MBC Flats are a commitment to living out our values of community, formation and service in the midst of our day to day lives. We’re committed to moving into the neighbourhood of Murrumbeena and pursuing opportunities to connect with and serve those around us, in partnership with the local church.

What else is around for me to get involved in?

MBC is a diverse community of people seeking to follow Jesus, love one another and serve our local community.

We run a Sunday morning service, various small groups, monthly pot-luck lunches and a food co-op. There are lots of opportunities to get connected!
