MBC has been meeting in Murrumbeena since 1890.
We are a diverse community of people seeking to follow Jesus, love one another and serve our local community.
You’ll find that our experiences and theologies can sometimes differ, but we thrive on the mystery, beauty and grace to be found in travelling together and learning from one another.
What’s important? Why are we here?
There’s a lot that’s important to us, but these two things seem like a good place to start:
1. Deepening our relationship with God
From our own stories, and from the ancient stories we find in the Bible, we know God’s love to be transforming, sacrificial, intriguing and relentless.
We aim to deepen our dependence on God’s love and grow in our maturity as followers of Jesus. We see discipleship as a whole-of-life thing, and seek to love God through all that we do. We don’t sugar coat the hard things in life and pretend everything is great all the time, but celebrate a God who walks with us through the good times and the hard times.
2. Loving our neighbours
We believe that loving our neighbour brings our world closer to the world that God intended. We are committed to people coming to know the love and truth of Jesus both locally and across the world. We know that in loving our neighbours, we can experience God and help build God’s Kingdom on earth.
Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” ~ Matt. 22:37-40
