Who we are…
MBC is a bunch of people who are seeking God together. Each of us plays a part in creating a community that exists to encounter God and share His love with the people around us. We dream of a world transformed and people living with hope because they have discovered this love.
Get to know us and you’ll find we are each a big mix of saint and sinner. Life is never predictable, and sometimes messy, but we thrive on the mystery, beauty and grace to be found in travelling together and putting into practice Jesus’ teachings about forgiveness and love.
You are welcome to seek God and to care for others with us!
What we’re on about…
It’s hard to sum up everything that’s important to us, but these three values are a pretty good start:
1. Deepening our walk with God
2. Building relationships with each other
3. Serving our wider community
While the details of our theologies sometimes differ, we find unity in the grace and love that we receive from Jesus.
Each of us has a different story of how we have experienced His love, but from our own stories and from the ancient stories we find in the Bible we know this love to be transforming, sacrificial, intriguing and relentless.
We hope to help others to come to know God through Jesus. We seek to be more like him, to love as he loves, to bring hope to the hopeless and good news to the poor and oppressed in our local community and the world.
“Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence’… this is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s law and the Prophets hangs from them.” ~Jesus
How stuff works around here…
Who’s in charge?
If you’re looking for the traditional priest/senior minister… you won’t find them. We do have a couple of part time paid staff but many of us share the roles of teaching, caring, serving, and leading… depending on the gifts that God has given us. We value hearing stories of God through multiple voices. Sometimes all of this may mean that things are a bit less “professional” but for us that’s ok… we value participation over professionalism!
“The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part is dependent on every other part” Paul’s letter to the Corinthians
How can I help?
We’d love you to!
If there’s something in particular you’d like to get involved with you are very welcome to get in touch. If you’re not sure, there are stacks of weekly jobs that we roster, so send us an email and we can sign you up.
If you’d like to support us financially, there’s the old fashioned method (lovely tapestry bags on Sunday morning) or a bank transfer.
How do I stay up to date?
We are saving on trees and administration costs by not printing paper updates every week. Instead we send weekly emails which you can subscribe to by emailing us. If you’re not an email person, once again, call us or pop in for a visit some time.
